A homecoming of friends and family celebrating Sherilyn McClain's Homecoming to her Heavenly Father will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, in the chapel at Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home in Henderson, TX. Interment will follow at Rusk County Memorial Gardens under the direction of Crawford-A. Crim. Ronald Witcher, of Longview, will officiate. The McClain family will warmly welcome friends, family, and visitors from 12:00 p.m. until the beginning of the service on Tuesday, April 18, at the funeral home. Sherilyn went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Good Friday, April 7, 2023, at Houston Methodist Hospital. A long-time resident of Houston, Sherilyn is formerly of Turnertown, TX. Preceded in death by her parents, Dr. J.T. McClain and Mrs. Evelyn Butler McClain, of Turnertown, TX, Sherilyn is survived by sisters, Marilyn McClain Chhatpar (Tibu), of Manvel, TX, and Carolyn McClain, of Atlanta, GA; nephew Jay Bradley Bonds, of Idaho Falls, ID; niece Jana Read Healey, of Macomb Township, MI; great-nephew Logan Healey; a large group of beloved cousins in Lufkin, TX and Van, TX; and a host of supportive and cherished friends. Born August 3, 1949, in Tyler, TX, Sherilyn grew up in Turnertown, TX. A 1967 graduate of West Rusk High School, she excelled in band, choir, one act plays and was a class representative. After attending Kilgore College, Sherilyn graduated from Baylor University, with a Bachelor of Arts degree, in 1972. She moved to College Station and taught elementary school at North Zulch, while taking graduate classes at Texas A&M. Sherilyn’s professional life literally “took off,” in 1976 when Texas International Airlines (TXIA) hired her to be a flight attendant. She was based in Houston, where she lived for the remainder of her life. When Continental Airlines merged with the much smaller Texas International Airlines in 1982, Sherilyn became a Senior Flight Attendant for Continental. Her gentle advice to friends and family was “be nice to the flight attendants, and always carry change for a $20, because the flight attendants will appreciate it.” Sherilyn never had a “close call” during her years with Texas International and Continental Airlines. National Safety Associates, Inc. (NSA) provided a new business opportunity for Sherilyn in 1988. Sherilyn accepted a direct sales position with the Company and built her business on a part-time basis, while continuing to fly for Continental. By 1992, she had retired from Continental Airlines. In 1992, Sherilyn earned National Marketing Director status for NSA. She was appointed to the NSA President’s Advisory Council in 1993. Sherilyn continued to work for NSA and its flagship product, Juice Plus+ until she retired. Pallbearers will be former West Rusk High School classmates Don Cooper, Danny Dorsey, Randall Montgomery, Larry Stephens, Riley Taylor, and Barry Wilson. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the West Rusk High School Class of 1967. The McClain family gratefully and humbly acknowledges Denise Schneider for her helpful advice, support, and direction. The family also acknowledges and thanks Sherilyn’s long-time next-door neighbor and loyal friend, Josie Fridley. The medical staff at Houston Methodist Hospital, particularly Jill Jordan, Lead Social Worker and Case Manager, and Chaplains Chuck Hawkins, Rejeana Warren, Claudia Stephens, and Charles Abuyeka, provided expert care and compassion for Sherilyn. The difference they made, made all the difference. Lastly, the McClain family extends sincere appreciation for the outpouring of prayer, love, and support from dear friends, family, and extended family.
