Ms. Peggy Shaw Dopson

Ms. Peggy Dopson, 89, of Henderson, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 18, 2024, at her residence. She was born August 26, 1934, in Nacogdoches to the late Charley and D (Harris) Shaw and lived all of her life in Henderson. She grew up attending Henderson schools and graduated as Valedictorian of her graduating class. She would go on to Texas Christian University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. Peggy had a heart for children and devoted her life to their education. She was a teacher for Henderson I.S.D. and retired as the Reading Supervisor in administration for the district. Ms. Dopson was a life-long, faithful member of First Baptist Church in Henderson where she taught Sunday School for over 50 years. She was eventually “promoted” to a door greeter and took great pride in her service. Peggy had a giving spirit, donating to several Christian organizations as well as being a devoted supporter of KVNE. She was also an avid sports fan and wouldn’t miss cheering on her Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks, and Texas Rangers. She was proud that she was able to see all three become World Champions in her lifetime. Peggy had a great love for her children and grandchildren. She didn’t mind driving, no matter the distance, to visit with them, and she never missed an event whether it be a dance recital, cheer competition, school event, or any number of sporting events. Survivors include her daughters, Vicki Cox of Henderson, and Lori Vinson and husband Neal of Henderson; grandchildren, Alicia Jewell and husband David of Nederland, Colorado, Kristin Odom and husband George of Madison, Mississippi, Aaron Cox of Miami, Florida, and Turner Vinson and wife Teysha of Hamilton, Montana; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Easton, Lila Jane, Nicolas, Byrd, Lewin, Walt, and Flannery; as well as a host of many friends. Family graveside services will be held under the direction of Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 PM on Monday, July 22, 2024, in the Parlor of the Family Life Center at First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Children’s Building Fund at First Baptist Church, 207 W. Main St., Henderson, TX 75654.
