Mrs. Mickey Brooks

Mrs. Mickey (Ray) Brooks, 89, of Henderson, Texas, passed away July 22, 2013 after a brief illness. She is survived by her husband of almost 68 years, Ray O. Brooks of Henderson; son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Betsy Brooks; and daughter Patty Christian, all of Henderson; granddaughter, Amanda Kaharsh and husband Ramon of Ludwigsburg, Germany; grandson, Craig Christian, and adored great-granddaughter, Raimey Christian of Henderson. She is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, James and Hazel Evans of Richardson, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Bobby Whittenberg of Longview, Texas; sisters-in-law, Judy Evans of Seguin, Texas, and Vida Hughes and Tommie Hall, both of Dallas. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Evans; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Brooks; sisters, Betty Daniel and Martha Jo Evans; brother, Joe Evans; sister-in-law Elvice Barr; niece, Paula Evans Wallace; and son-in-law, Johnny Christian. Mrs. Brooks was born April 7, 1924 in Navarro, Texas and graduated from Corsicana High School in 1941. In 1953 the Brooks family moved to Henderson so Mr. Brooks could attend Texas Baptist Institute and Seminary. Her husband then began his career with the Seminary and today is President. They also accepted the call to Long Branch Missionary Baptist Church in 1953 and after 60 years remain as pastor and pastor's wife. Mrs. Brooks, known as "First Lady" of Texas Baptist Intstitute and Seminary, touched many lives all over the world. She greatly loved her church and the Seminary. Mrs Brooks helped put her two children through college by selling Stanley Home Products and made many friends though her work. Mrs. Brooks was also known for her love of Texas A&M, where her husband graduated in 1946; son Jack in 1973, and granddaughter Amanda in 1997. Watching Jack marching in "That Fighting Texas Aggie Band" gave her many hours of enjoyment. She truly bled Maroon. Mrs. Brooks' greatest joy came from being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She adored Raimey and spent many hours playing with her. We will miss her greatly, but rejoice in knowing that she is in the presence of her Heavenly Father and her Savior, Jesus Christ. We also know this is not good-bye because we know we will meet her again in her Heavenly Home. We would like to thank Autumn Leaves and Hearts Way Hospice for the wonderful care in her last days. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Texas Baptist Institute and Seminary, The Baptist Monitor, or Hearts Way Hospice. The family will have private family graveside services conducted by Rev. David Proctor. A Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Calvary Baptist Church in Henderson. Conducting the service will be Dr. Bill Kuykendall, Dr. Ray Williams, Rev. Gerry Neal, Rev. Glenn Griffith, and Dr. Steve Butler. Pallbearers will be Craig Christian, David Proctor, Frank Vaughn, Allen Cariker, Clay Whittenberg, and John Worley. Honorary pallbearers will be Ramon Kaharsh, members of Long Branch Baptist Church, and faculty, staff, trustees, and students of Texas Baptist Institute and Seminary.
