Mrs. Elizabeth Wade McMurray

Elizabeth Wade McMurray, 90, passed from this earthly life into eternal life on March 22, 2015 at Autumn Leaves Health and Rehab Center. Elizabeth was born on June 20, 1924 in Henderson, Texas where she was an active member of First Baptist Church since childhood. Elizabeth and Sherrill McMurray were married July 19, 1943 and were inseparable until Sherrill's passing in 2009. Early in their marriage, Elizabeth worked as a proofreader at the Henderson Daily News, where Sherrill was employed as a typesetter. But Elizabeth was most well remembered by her time working at First National Bank in Henderson, as a loan officer. She is remembered by many prominent people in Henderson as the person who gave them their very first bank loan ever. She retired on December 6, 1980 as a Vice-President of First Republic Bank. Elizabeth helped Sherrill develop Big Oak Subdivision, beginning in the 70's and for many years enjoyed sponsoring the Big Oak Girls Softball Team and they rarely missed a game. They enjoyed the Western culture which included rodeos and raising cattle, and enjoyed going to Las Vegas for The National Rodeo Championships. They also enjoyed playing dominos and cards, and going out to eat with their many friends. Elizabeth loved her daily walk, whether it was down in Big Oak or at First Baptist Church FLC. She also enjoyed maintaining her lawn well into her 80's where she could be seen mowing on a weekly basis. She was a loving wife, mother and MawMaw and loved everyone and always looked for the best in every person and situation. Mrs. McMurray was preceded in death by her parents, John Edgar and Bertha Mae Parr Wade: sisters, Evelyn Wade, Estelle Wright, Alicia Loudermilk, Willie Mae Freeman, and Thetys Wade and brothers, John E. Wade, Jr., Warren Wade, and Woodrow Wade. She is survived by sisters, Eva McKnight of Tyler, and Laneese Crim of Henderson, two sons, Kim R. McMurray (Laura) of Beaumont and Steve McMurray (Sandy) of Henderson. Additionally, she is survived by her grandchildren - Clint Baughman (Meagan), Clay McMurray (Laura), Chad McMurray (Stacie), Tim McMurray (Vickie), Tom McMurray (Meredith), Ashley Orr, and Christy Orr - eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Services for Mrs. McMurray will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 in the chapel of Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home with Jason Taylor and Dr. David Higgs officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Tim McMurray, Tom McMurray, Clay McMurray, Chad McMurray, Clint Baughman, and Kevin Welch. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the attentive staff and physicians associated with Emeritus Assisted Living, Autumn Leaves Health and Rehab and Heart to Heart Hospice for their kind and loving care of Elizabeth during her declining years.
