James "Ebb" Everly Smith Funeral services for James "Ebb" Everly Smith, age 93, of Henderson, Texas, will be held at Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11th with Reverend Bill Tisdale officiating. Interment will be in Lakewood Memorial Park cemetery under the direction of Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home in Henderson, Texas. Ebb Smith died May 9th, 2010 at home in Henderson, Texas. He was born on April 27th, 1917 in New Prospect, TX. Ebb resided in Henderson, Texas since 1937. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Ebb first owned Smith Brothers' Exxon with his brother Lovis and later owned Ebb Smith Texaco. He was also a constable in Rusk County for twenty years. Ebb and his brother Delma catered for Logtech. An avid outdoorsman, he managed and was a guide for a hunting camp in Goldthwaite, TX. Throughout his life, Ebb derived great joy from hunting and fishing. He was a phenomenal storyteller and a wonderful role model for his children and many grandchildren. During World War II, James "Ebb" Smith served in the Air Force. He enlisted in 1940 and fought in Northern Africa, the Middle East, and Southern Europe with the 66th Fighter Squadron of the 57th Fighter Group. As a Tech Sergeant, Ebb served in Africa, Sicily, Italy, Corsica, France, and Malta. He received six Battle Stars, three Presidential Citations, a Good Conduct medal, an EAME ribbon, and a Pre-Pearl Harbor ribbon. Ebb was discharged in 1945, after which he served in the USAF Reserves until honorably discharged in 1953. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until services at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Crawford ?A. Crim Funeral Home. James "Ebb" Smith was preceded in death by brothers Belton Smith, Delma Smith, Lovis Smith, and Charlie Smith; and sisters Rachel Smith and Joyce Foy.Ebb is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Betty Jones Smith of Henderson; one sister, Marjorie Rogers of Ozona, TX; son, James Lynn Smith and wife Yolanda of Henderson; daughter, Lynda Young and husband Gary of Brentwood, TN; son, Don Smith and wife Carol of Federal Way, WA; son, Neal Smith and wife Rena of Premont, TX; grandchildren: David Smith, Rachel Smith Zertuche, Tory Smith, Kelly Smith Howard, Logan Smith, John Young, Tyler Smith, Matt Smith, Travis Smith, and Colton Smith; great-grandchildren: Chloe Smith, Vincent Howard, and Sofia Howard.Pallbearers are David Smith, Tory Smith, Logan Smith, John Young, Matt Smith, Colton Smith, Micah Howard, and Travis Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Tyler Smith and Humberto Zertuche.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Angel Care Hospice at 209 Hwy 79N, Suite 102, Henderson, TX, 75652.
