Mr. Dewayne Mahaffey

Funeral services for Mr. Dewayne Mahaffey “Booster”, 89, of Henderson, will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at the Henderson Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Chad Townsley officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Concord Cemetery in Cherokee County under the direction of Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM on Wednesday, August 28, at the funeral home. Mr. Mahaffey passed from this life on August 25, 2024, at his residence. He was born July 11, 1935, in Troup to the late Winfred Thurman and Dorothy Katherine (Martin) Mahaffey. Dewayne attended Carlisle schools and went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Marine Corps. He enlisted in 1954 and advanced to Buck Sergeant by 1958. He returned to East Texas, upon his beautiful bride’s request, continuing to serve in the Marine Reserves until 1962. He owned and operated Mahaffey’s Texaco and M&M Motors from 1979-1995. Mr. Mahaffey also dedicated 10 years to Texas Utilities and 18 years to Eastman Chemical from which he retired. After “retiring” he spent his last 13 years as the Cabana Sam’s maintenance expert. The Cabana Sam’s crew say, “he didn’t just work here, he was Cabana Sam’s.” Dewayne will forever be known as a hard worker to all who loved him. He worked tirelessly to build a strong foundation for the love of his life, Lillie, and his family. Family was his “why” and there was nothing he would not do for his kids. Dewayne loved his church. He helped build the Nazarene church in 1975; where he continued to serve until his final breath. He made sure to instill in his family the importance of church. Dewayne Mahaffey a beacon of love, touched many lives, his legacy will continue to inspire and guide us. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Lillie Mahaffey of Henderson; son, Phillip Mahaffey and wife Vickie of Henderson; daughter, Patti Mostyn and husband Craig of Henderson; brother, Charles Ned Mahaffey of Concord; grandchildren, Tori Anderson and husband Steve, and Alex Tabor and husband Justin, all of Henderson, Katie Halfpenny and husband Scott of Henderson, Jake Mostyn and wife Hailey of Concord, and Molly Bell and husband Jason of Concord; great-grandchildren, John Dalton, Aleiace, Blaize, Jaylei, Ryker, Abby, Kasen, Kennedi, Harli, Mia, Knox, Kenneth, and Lillie Jean on the way. Pallbearers will be Luke Prior, Steve Green, Paul Hamilton, Larry Stuart, Chris Cavaliere, and Brad Blanton. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Soape, Mike Desrick, Ray Stuart, Albert Weaver, and Brent Blanton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Henderson Church of the Nazarene at P.O.
