December 22, 1953 - May 17, 2020
William Griff Ross (Bill) went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, May 17, 2020. Born December 22, 1953 in Dallas TX to Dr. William F. Ross and Elizabeth Jane Ross (nee Hagar), he retired to Nacogdoches, TX. Bill had intelligence, compassion, humility, love of God and family and strove to be the best person he could be. Brother, partner, and friend, he was a remarkable man of character with a gentle presence, and incredible love of the great outdoors. He was a student and teacher of the Piney Woods of deep East Texas, checking out odd critters like leaf cutting ants, pine beetles and woodpeckers. But most likely you’d find him outside of the classroom, wetting a hook, or telling tall tales by a campfire. His love of nature eventually led him to achieve a doctorate degree in forestry which he taught with passion. Bill treated every person he met with respect and dignity and anyone who knew him respected him, as well. Those of us who loved him knew him as a giving, loving and concerned brother, friend, and companion. We will never forget him and will always love and miss him. He is cherished in our memories. Preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Terry Coker, he is survived by siblings Stephanie Ross Coker, Lauren Ross Baldwin, Jim Ross, Paula Ross Cogell, girlfriend Dolores Hoeber, dear friend Michelle Clendenin, 3 nieces and 2 nephews, numerous cousins, and many, many friends. Funeral arrangements are pending. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Louisiana Tech University Foundation, Attention In Memory of William G. (Bill) Ross Scholarship, P.O. Box 1190, Ruston, Louisiana 71273-1190. Condolences may be made at www.crawfordacrim.com.
