Mr. Eldon Farmer Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Eldon W. Farmer, 97, of Gilmer, was born February 25, 1925. He was one of six children born to Currie Farmer and Mabel Davis Farmer, Neva, Clara, Mary, Doyle and Eugene, all born at their family home in Maryville, Missouri. Eldon graduated from Rosendale High School in Rosendale, Missouri in 1943 where he was one of the star players of their winning football team. Mr. Farmer passed from this life on July 22, 2022, in Gilmer. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army, taking his basic training at Camp Fannin in Tyler, Texas before being shipped to Japan with the 600th Air Engineer Squadron where he served for 2 years. He retired as V.P, from Custom Commodities in Gilmer. He taught truck driving to new drivers, was the insurance adjuster, compliance officer and office manager. He was a gentleman farmer, he dearly loved bailing hay, it truly was his passion. He and his wife Jo built their house, barn & shop while raising a heard of Black Angus cattle, the family horse Boudreaux and Australian Shepherd, Bonnie Blue as well as Turkey’s, Geese and Quail. He loved his spring fed lake (Farmer Lake) which was well stocked with Catfish and a fishing pier full of tackle for friends to come enjoy. He was preceded in death by his eldest son Arnold Farmer and is survived by his three children, Pamela Farmer Russell; Scott (Pat) Walker; Steve (Shirley) Walker; grandchildren Elizabeth (Gabe) Puente; Michael Farmer, Blake Russell, Zach Gonzalez, Doug Walker, Allie Fuller, Kristin Adams, Robin Lippett, Paul Walker and Eric Walker. Like family, close friends and neighbors, Virginia Carroll, John and Mable Jordan, Jim and Judy Marshall, Skip and Renee Rome, Brandon and Rachael Buell, David and Dixie Stevenson, Phillip and Janadell Bryant, Nancy Harrison Hill, Sabrina Sutton, Doss and Janie Carothers, Kim Cain, Pastor Mike Kessler and all of his First Baptist Church friends, Lyndon and Debbie Jefferson and their daughter Caylee Young who he dearly loved as his own granddaughter. Graveside services for Mr. Farmer will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, in the mausoleum at Rusk County Memorial Gardens with David Stevenson speaking.
