Charles Edward Tyson was born February 11, 1954 to Lucille Williams and Robert Tyson in Independence, Louisiana. He went to be with the Lord on January 31, 2020. His early life was spent in foster care which concluded at Summit Oaks in Laneville. Charlie was brought into our family about 40 years ago. We will always be grateful to C. J. Jackson from Summit Oaks for allowing Charlie to become a part of our family and lives. At that time, who would have known that Charlie would become a brother, a friend and a companion to all of us. Charlie was blessed to spend his life hunting, fishing, golfing, farming and enjoying trips to Colorado. He helped Mark over the years to grow some of the best watermelons, peas, squash and sunflowers East Texas has known. Charlie was a great help to Steve with the ministry at Camp Ta-Ku-La in Chester, TX. He helped there with various fundraisers including archery and golf tournaments along with various races. He loved to golf with Joe. He proudly told others he was a member of two golf courses. His mission in life was to be a help to others. He had a true servant’s heart. Every September, he would mow Debbie’s field as her birthday present. Every morning he would take coffee to Mark and help him with whatever Mark needed. When he was at Camp Ta-Ku-La, he was loved by staff and campers alike for no other reason than he was just Charlie. He was a friend at all times. The old saying of “closer than a brother” defined who he was. He will be missed by his chosen family. Family is not just blood, but a bond of true love and friendship. His family includes his “brother” Mark Hays who was his constant daily buddy, his “sister” Debbie Maddox and his golf buddy Joe Maddox. I know he was welcomed into Heaven’s gate by his “brother” Steve who preceded him in death last year. Other immediate family includes Ben and Kelli Hays, Steven and Phyllis Hays, Kit and Jen Maddox, Scotty Smitherman, Amanda (Hays) and Jay Wherry, and Bonnie (Hays) and Zach Hairston; along with all their children. Others that loved and called him family are Janice and Bernie Santos, as well as countless others. Pallbearers will be Kit Maddox, Joe Maddox, Mark Hays, Bernie Santos, Ben Hays, and Steven Hays. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.crawfordacrim.com.
