Mrs. Somerville passed from this life on April 3, 2022, at Hospice of East Texas Homeplace in Tyler. She was born November 19, 1940, in Pin Hook, Texas to the late Delbert Leslie and Pauline Marie (Fleming) Helms. Betty graduated from Smiley High School in Houston and later became a bookkeeper for Killebrew Manufacturing and Moores’ Feed and Seed. She moved to 5 different cities as she gladly followed her husband around for his career. She always said that she was happiest when Pops was happy, and he always said that he was happiest when B was happy. B, as Mrs. Somerville was known to family, was an artist who loved to add texture to her paintings despite her art teacher's protests. She would "follow the rules" according to the instructor and then go home and add more and more texture until it pleased her. Her favorite pastime was going to garage sales with Pops. After they would get back from their "treasure hunting", she would call her children and tell them what she bought and where she was going to place it in her home. Mrs. Somerville was a member of First Baptist Church in Henderson. B loved Jesus and her family (in that order). She took Dwayne and Cindi to church and professed her loved for her Lord and made attending church a priority for her children above everything else. She would make comments about how she would be the happiest person alive if she knew that her children, grandchildren, and great grands would all eventually accept Christ so that they would have a reunion in heaven. She loved with all her heart and remained a steadfast prayer warrior for her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 45 years, William Carl Somerville; and sisters, Velma Denise Helms and Carol Jo Helms. Survivors include her children, Dwayne Somerville and wife Lea Anne of Mexia, and Cindi Rains and husband Gaylon of Henderson; siblings, Shirley Bryan and husband David of Magazine, Arkansas, Leslie Helms and wife Mandy of Spring, Joe Helms and wife Pat of Lake Livingston, and Kenny Helms of Lake Livingston; grandchildren, Noah Somerville, Daniel Somerville, Micah Somerville, Carli DeVance, Jason Rains, Dustin Rains, and Stephen Rains; and great-grandchildren, Rory DeVance, Maren DeVance, Caroline Rains, Summer Rains, Jolee Rains, Jaidyn Murphy, Jordyn Murphy, Braxton Rains, Stella Rains, and Russ Rains. Pallbearers will be Noah Somerville, Daniel Somerville, Micah Somerville, Jason Rains, Dustin Rains, and Stephen Rains. Honorary pallbearers will be Dylan DeVance and Joe Dan Brown. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities at 2415 S. 47th Street, Temple, TX 76504, and/or Hospice of East Texas at 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, TX 75701.
