Ms. Tahsha Ann Blackwell

Tahsha Ann Blackwell was born June 4, 1962 to joyful parents Jerry and Jimmy Blackwell, and maternal grandparents, Velma and Homer Bryce, of Henderson, Texas. Her name was inspired by the songbird in Peter and the Wolf, a musical symphony for children, and it reflected her parents’ love of music and the arts. Tahsha and her family members were long-time, faithful attendees of First Baptist Church, where she participated in choir, Girls in Action, Acteens, and the youth group. Early on, Tahsha gave her heart to the Lord Jesus Christ, and was baptized after a summer revival at First Baptist. Tahsha attended Mrs. Wright’s kindergarten, Montgomery Elementary School, Hill Intermediate School (the year of the fire), Northside Middle School, Henderson Jr. High School, and graduated from Henderson High School in 1980. After high school, Tahsha went on to attend Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, as well as Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth. She also earned an aesthetician’s certificate and worked in Dallas at a local spa and wellness center. In 2015, Tahsha relocated back to Dallas after living in Houston and joined First Baptist Church of Dallas. There, she renewed her relationship with Jesus, and became very involved in helping teach 3rd grade Sunday School with her childhood friend Mary Catherine, as well as becoming a member of the Women’s Ministry Bible Study groups. Tahsha truly made indelible impressions on all the people she met and gave of herself to those with needs. She personified the scripture from Matthew 25:35-40, where Jesus says, … “Truly, I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these, you did for me.” In James 2:14-17, where the Bible emphasizes the importance of generosity and compassion towards others, verse 17 sums up Tahsha’s attitude about helping others by stating, “…faith, by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” She believed in her eternal salvation, but also lived it by giving and doing for others. Tahsha left this earth in the early morning hours of September 2, 2023, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease, which had been diagnosed in 2017. She was welcomed into the gates of Heaven and released from suffering. All who knew her are left with precious memories and stories of her colorful life: most notably her love for God, her family, her dogs, and the color purple. Survivors include her mother, Jerry Bryce Blackwell of Henderson; brother, Blake Blackwell and wife Karen of Texarkana; niece and nephew, Brooke Blackwell of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Bryce Blackwell of Texarkana; uncle, Jim McMillin of Henderson; special cousins, Michael Wilhite and wife Laurie of Dallas, Lee Ann Mills and husband Andy of Henderson, Jennifer Holt and husband Edwin of Tyler, and Joanie Cooley and husband Trey of Dallas; as well as several other cousins, family and friends. Honorary pallbearers include Jim McMillin, Michael Wilhite, Theron Jimerson, Andy Mills, Edwin Holt, and Trey Cooley. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2023, at the funeral home. Graveside services for Tahsha will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 9, at Lakewood Memorial Park. Interment will follow under the direction of Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home.
