Dr. Sanford Ladage

Dr. Frederick Sanford “Sandy” Ladage, 73, of Henderson, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, January 7, 2018, at Hospice Homeplace, Tyler after a two year battle with Leukemia under the care of Dr. K. Naqvi at MD Anderson, Houston and Dr. Ashigbi at Hope Cancer Center, Tyler. He participated in two different Research studies during his two year journey. Sandy was born on December 14, 1944, and raised in Fort Smith, Arkansas where he spent much of his childhood on the golf course. During his youth, Sandy served overseas as a Navy Physician stationed with the Marines and did work with the Navigators Christian group. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity chapter at the University of Arkansas. Sandy graduated from the University of Arkansas with his M.D. in 1972. He did his Internship and Residency at John Peter Smith in Ft. Worth, Texas. He was a man who put God first, family second, followed by his job and the church. He was married for 40 years to Antoinette Cappleman “Toinette” Ladage. His children include Rebekah and Tyler Lewis of Austin, and David and Mary Ladage of Denton. He has 1 sister, Sallie Ladage of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, brother-in- Law Larry and Debbie Cappleman of Winter Garden, Florida. His grandchildren include Sophia Lewis, Jacob Lewis, Elijah Ladage, Asher Ladage, and Ezekiel Ladage. Sandy also leaves to cherish his memory, special longtime childhood friend Charles Hartsfield of Ft. Smith, Arkansas. Those preceding him in death were daughter Jennifer, parents Frederick and Felicitas Ladage of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, in-laws Gene and Toni Cappleman of Winter Garden, Florida, and brother-in-law Bill Cappleman of Winter Garden. His heart was in loving God and loving people. As a Family Practice Physician in Henderson, he cared for his patients as family and friends. Dr. Jeffrey Cahill was his partner of 35 years, and he retired as a Physician in 2014. He was a former Member of the Rusk County Medical Society and the American Academy of Family Practice. He served on many Medical Mission Trips (5 to the Amazon of Brazil with Amazon Outreach, 1 to China, and 5 to Mexico with First Baptist, Henderson). He had submitted his application to work on the Africa Mercy Ship, but his health prevented it. Sandy was a Deacon, Sunday school teacher, and Greeter at First Baptist Church, Henderson. He was also a part of the rotation of teaching Sunday school at the Rusk County Jail. He was a member of the Strong/Hurt Breakfast Club and a former Board Member of H.I.M. and the Boys & Girls Club of Rusk County. Funeral services for Dr. Ladage will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 11, 2018, at First Baptist Church with Dr. David Higgs and Rev. Don Edmiston officiating. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park under the direction of Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10, at the funeral home. Pallbearers include Tommy Jimerson, John Foster, David Spivey, Dennis Rivers, Jack Powers, and John Kelley.
