Mrs. Phyllis "Katie" Kay Fears

Graveside services for Mrs. Phyllis "Katie" Kay Fears, 82, of Mt. Enterprise will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, April 7, 2023 at Caledonia Cemetery with Rev. Joe Orr officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home in Henderson. Mrs. Fears passed away April 1, 2023 in Nacogdoches. Katie spent her life caring for others. It was her calling and she fulfilled it with great honor. Her passion for people was astounding and admirable. She worked as a caregiver for practically her entire life and was dedicated to those she looked after. She was charismatic and enjoyed being around people. She was devoted, generous and loving, but the small stature could sure fool ya! She was 5 feet of utter feistiness. If it was necessary, she stood up like a bear for what she believed in. Her family will tell you that she was not afraid of anything but had the biggest, most loving heart there ever was. Katie’s passion of caring for people carried over into her personal life as well. She and David Fears were married for 33 beautiful years and Katie never stopped taking care of her best friend. They enjoyed visiting friends and family but were happy to sit at home in the serenity of their own world. Katie was fortunate enough to have had 2 great father figures in her life, a mother who loved her dearly, aunts and uncles that treated her like she was their own and the most wonderful siblings a girl could ask for. When she and David married, she not only gained the love she deserved but appreciated the addition of his children in her life. Katie always took Matt, Shelbie and Mandy as her own. When grandchildren came along, she was happily deemed as “Grannie”. However, everyone knew that David was her joy. He was her other half and they completed each other. She loved him without boundaries and stood beside him every step of the way through their journey in life. Kate will be missed immensely by those around her. The enormous personality and deep rooted character she portrayed will forever be her legacy and her feisty nature and profound loyalty to those she loved and cared for will carry on through those who meant the most to her. Katie leaves behind her loving husband, David Fears of Mt. Enterprise, children, Matt Fears and wife Torrie, Shelbie Scogin and husband Charlie and Mandy Fears and life partner Shane Hagler; a host of beautiful grandchildren and great grandchildren; siblings, Pat Dwyer of Elmwood, Illinois, Sharon Pray of Hardesty, Oklahoma, Bill Coykendall and wife Sharon of Elmwood, Illinois and Jody Hamby and husband, Terry of Peoria, Illinois. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews that held a special place in her heart, as well as many friends she considered family.
