Mrs. Peggy Jo Churchman

Peggy Jo Churchman, age 65 and a Henderson area resident, passed away surrounded by her husband and daughters, on May 6, 2023. Born on June 12, 1957 in Houston, Peggy was the eldest of five children. Raised by her parents, Bobby and Alice, she lived in Pearland and graduated from Pearland High School. She spent most of her life in Pearland, where she and her high school sweetheart, her husband of 48 years, raised their three girls. Peggy never met a stranger and touched the lives of everyone she encountered. She always had a smile on her face, an encouraging word to offer, and a scripture to bring hope to people who needed it most. Peggy was a living example of her Catholic faith. She taught her daughters to feed the hungry, clothe the homeless, take care of orphans, and love on people that most would not. She reminded people often to forgive those who hurt them and to offer their sufferings up to the Lord. She instilled her love of Jesus in her children and grandchildren and enjoyed saying morning and evening prayers with her grandbabies. Peggy accomplished so much during her 20+ year career in education and was loved by her employers and co-workers for her strong work ethic and positive attitude. She worked for Pearland ISD for over a decade before moving to the Henderson area where she held positions with Region 7, UT Tyler College of Pharmacy, and UT Health Science Center in Tyler. She had many hobbies including art, music, crafting, jewelry-making, and most recently she worked incredibly hard to create a beautiful prayer book. The way she chose to share her faith leaves us with a legacy of love that will make an incredible impact. Peggy loved her family more than anything and always had her home cozy and ready to host gatherings. She loved to shower those closest to her with thoughtful gifts and it gave her so much joy to plan parties and meals where she could gather her family for laughter and memories. Her fun-loving, spontaneous and kind spirit will be missed by all who loved her. She was preceded in death by her father, Bobby Hopper, Sr. Survivors include her husband, Fred Churchman; mother, Alice Hopper; daughters, Dafne Wiswell and husband Ron, Adrianne Churchman, and Freda Lollis and husband James; siblings, Gina Blanchard and husband Robert, Marsha Bratton and husband Brian, Allyson Shamp and husband Jim, and Bobby Hopper Jr. and wife Robin; grandchildren, Grant, Grace, Reece, Bryce, Faith, Wyatt, Lorelei, Addy, Barrett, Everett, and Annalyse Jo; great-granddaughter Olivia on the way; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and many other family and friends. Services for Peggy will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 903 E Main Street, Whitehouse, Texas 75791, on Saturday, May 13th, where a rosary will be recited at 12:30 pm. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated immediately after at 1 pm. with Fr. Luke officiating. A reception will follow the service in the Parish Hall at the church from 2 pm to 4 pm.
