Miss Norma Marie Markey

Miss Norma Marie Markey passed from this life on Wednesday, the 24th of June, 2015, in Liberty, Missouri. Services will be held at St. Jude's Catholic Church on Tuesday, June 30th at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 6-7 p.m., and Rosary from 7-8 p.m., with Father Jay Lucas presiding, at Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home of Henderson. Norma was born in Henderson, TX, on November 1, 1931 to the late Frank Henry Markey and Vernie Marie Theriot Markey. She graduated from St. Vincent Academy in Shreveport, LA., then attended Tyler Junior College. She finished her education at St. Thomas University in Houston. She earned a degree in both music and education. After college, she taught at St. Anthony's school in Houston. While at TJC, she was a duchess in the Tyler Rose Festival. Finally, Norma responded to the call of God and joined Infant Jesus Monastery in Lufkin and became a christened Nun. She spent three and one half years in the convent and then retired to a nursing home due to health reasons. She lived a happy and contented life at Our Lady of Mercy Country Home in Liberty, Missouri for 28 years. She was a strong believer in prayer and was a pious person. She spent most of her time in prayer and meditation. She always said Our Lady of Mercy Country Home was "heaven on earth." She was a kind and gentle person that always greeted everyone with a smile and a "God bless you." Norma was loved by everyone that knew her. She is survived by a brother and two sisters and their children and grandchildren. They include: Frank Henry Markey and wife Shelly Marie Rupnow Markey and their children, Austin James Markey and Jillian Grace Markey of Dallas; sister, Maureen Markey Brodnax and children Brett Phillip Brodnax and wife Allison Remple Brodnax, and daughter, Heather Marie Brodnax Knapowski and husband John Knapowski, and son Collin Christopher Brodnax, all of Dallas; sister, Barbara Markey Crim, and sons, Travis Frank Crim and Judy Putney, son Kevin Blaine Crim and children Brooke Marie Crim and Kory Blaine Crim, of Henderson. Pallbearers are David Alford, Art Rosseau, Ernest Winfrey, Scott Farley, Rex Crim, and Brad Keitt. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Catholic Church building fund.
