Funeral services for Mildred Turner, 81, of Henderson, will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 2, at the Crawford - A. Crim Funeral Home chapel with Mark Headrick and Jason Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park under the direction of Crawford - A. Crim Funeral Home.Mrs. Turner died on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011 at a local nursing home. She was born on Dec. 21, 1929 in Houlka, Miss., and lived most of her life in East Texas. Mildred attended the First Freewill Baptist Church.Mildred was involved in the livestock auction business with brothers Don and PeeWee Forrester as their primary bookkeeper in Athens, Emory, and Henderson for 45 years. She served as the office manager at all three barns as well as overseeing other business ventures with the Forrester's Cattle Company. Through her years of service she developed a very special bond that lasted a lifetime. In addition to the Forresters, she had a special friendship with Julio Ramirez, another longtime employee who was always there to assist Mildred with whatever she asked of him. In 2005 Mildred received special recognition by the Livestock Marketing Association of Texas in appreciation of her commitment and dedication to the livestock marketing industry. The family would like to say thank you to a lifelong friend whom she shared a lifetime of sale barn memories. In her final days Hazel Fairbanks took time to specially prepare her favorite meals and deliver them to her at home as well as the nursing home. Also Gail McGaugh and Mirna Davila of Hospice for their kind and loving care in Mildred's final hours. Hospice of East Texas was very helpful in our time of need and the family is very appreciative of the service they provided. Mildred loved the "Barn" and the barn and its Cowboys loved her. She will be missed by all.Family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 1 at the funeral home.Mrs. Turner was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. "Buck" Turner in 1976.Survivors include: three children, son Tony Gaston and wife Jeana of Henderson, daughter Terri Berry and husband Stanley of Laneville, and son Matt Turner and wife Cindy of Henderson; one sister, Darlyne Luquette and husband Luke of Arlington; three granddaughters, Alicia Hawkins and husband Casey of Longview, Jennifer Boothe, and McKinzie Turner, both of Henderson; and 5 great-grandchildren.Pallbearers will be Casey Hawkins, Jay Luquette, Kyle Luquette, Jed King, Bryan Forrester, and Bubba Forrester.
