Mrs. Mary Morris

Mrs. Mary Morris, 82, of Henderson, passed from this life on September 23, 2013. She was born September 30, 1930 in Yauco, Puerto Rico to the late Frank and Adela Olivieri Cheek. Mary was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Dr. Alfred E. Morris; daughter, Maria Eugenia Morris; and brother, Jose Thomas Cheek. Survivors include: daughters, Leigh Ann Morris of Henderson, Melinda Denson and husband Mitchell of Tyler, Jennifer Thomas of Henderson, and Suzanne Dotson and husband Hardy of Henderson; grandchildren, Morgan Denson, Mallory Denson, Mason Denson, Taylor Thomas, Kelsey Thomas, Nolan Dotson, and Conner Dotson; and a host of other relatives and special friends. Mom was a very selfless and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She helped raise us to be the strong, independent, yet nurturing women that we are today. She was active in many women’s service clubs. During her term as President of the Henderson Women’s Forum, she was instrumental in securing Helen Corbitt, cookbook author and creator of the Zodiac Room in Neiman Marcus, as program presenter. This was a very proud moment for Mom due to her avid love for cooking. Our mother had many signature dishes. One of which was her famous rainbow angel food cake. Fondly remembered by our lifelong friends, it was a must-have at all of our birthdays. She had an entrepreneurial spirit which led her on various business ventures. She brought the first travel agency to Henderson, which led to the opening of M&M Travel with her dear friend, Mary Jackson. Mom particularly enjoyed spending time with her many friends playing Bridge and Mahjong. She also had many sleepless Thursday nights in anticipation of her 6:00 a.m. “Breakfast Club” gatherings. The group was known for their matching outfits. Her legacy will live on through the lives she touched for many years to come. Forever in our heart Mom, we will miss you. Memorial services for Mrs. Morris will be held at 10 am Monday, September 30, 2013 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. David Luckert officiating, under the direction of Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. If desired, memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church at 204 N.
