Mrs Mary Jean Hayden

Funeral services for Mary Jean Hayden, of Tyler, will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, April 7, 2025, in the chapel at Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home in Henderson with Rev. Kimberly Carney officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at the funeral home prior to Monday’s memorial service. Jean passed away April 1, 2025 in Longview. She was born May 29, 1930 in Eros, Louisiana to Roy and Ottie (Zeigler) Phillips and has been a resident of East Texas for over 60 years. After receiving her Bachelor’s Degree from Louisiana Tech, she worked as a lab technician before beginning a long, fulfilling career teaching Chemistry, Biology and Science. She taught in several schools in East Texas, including Overton ISD and Tyler ISD – most notably at John Tyler High School from where she retired in 1992 after teaching there for 17 years. She was a long-time member of Fairview United Methodist Church in Tyler. Jean loved to dance and was known as one of the great dancers at TASCA where she was a regular and even the younger gentlemen preferred her as a dance partner. Jean took great pleasure in nurturing her flowers and plants - among her favorites were her azaleas and hydrangeas. Jean loved her dog Chloe who no doubt was excitedly greeting her at the gates of Heaven. She loved nothing more than being Mom and Memaw to her family, a source of great pride and joy. She took every opportunity to tell each of them “I love you all the world." Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Ottie Phillips, and her brother, Barron Phillips. Survivors include her children, Susan Hayden of Atlanta, Texas, Laura Bates and husband Johnny of Wills Point, Texas, Phillip Hayden and wife Beverly of Longview, Texas; grandchildren, Teresa Golightly, Jessica Bentley and husband Chad, Tara Peck and husband Randall, Whitney Kearney and husband Adam, Ashley Jones and husband Chris, Tyler Hayden and wife Rachael, Blaine Morris and wife Lauren, Chelsea Smith and husband Clayton, Logan Morris and wife Lindy, Jennifer Miller and husband, Danny; niece, Ginger Boothe; twenty great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends. The family would like to thank the staff of the memory care unit of Haven Oaks of Longview for their care, concern and compassion in caring for their loved one in her final weeks.
