Mr. John R. Morris

Funeral services for Mr. John R. Morris, 75, of Minden, will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Mt. Enterprise with Bro. Pete Underwood officiating. Interment will follow at Zion Hill Cemetery under the direction of Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM on Monday, May 13, at the funeral home. Mr. Morris passed from this life on May 8, 2024, at his residence. He was born August 18, 1948, raised by his mother and Grandparents on their farm in Minden. After graduating from Henderson High School Mr. Morris served his country in the United States Marines Corps during the Vietnam War. Following an honorable discharge, he went on to Stephen F. Austin State University where he completed his Bachelor’s degree. He worked as a carpenter and operated his own business. Mr. Morris grew up in Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church and later joined Landmark Missionary Baptist Church where he was a member for the past 29 years. John loved going for walks in the woods with his kids and later grandchildren, always in search for the next adventure whether it was camping, finding dinosaur bones, or sliding down waterfalls. He was proud of his country and never missed a Marine Corps. Birthday party with his buddies. John followed his family tradition of Sacred Harp Singing and served as the chairperson for the East Texas Convention for many years. Most of all, John loved his family, and one of his greatest joys was spending time with his kids and grandkids, attending their many activities, and sharing with them his adventurous spirit. John loved his mother Ruby, and spent many years caring for her into her old age, so that she could remain at home. John was a wonderful Dad, husband, friend, Grandad, and “Paw.” He uplifted those he loved when they were down, and always had a smile, a joke, and a great laugh. He treasured his family history and was a great story-teller of old times. After meeting in high school over 50 years ago, John reunited with and married Georgia (Hines) Morris, and they made their home on the family farm in Minden. Georgia brought a lot of joy and happiness to his life, and he loved her dearly. During his time of illness and at the end of his life, Georgia was by his side day and night with unwavering love and support. Above all, John's belief in Scripture and faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior never wavered. He was preceded in death by his mother Ruby (Harrell) Morris, father Reagan Morris, and his grandparents John Bunyon and Laura Bell (Hutchens) Harrell. Survivors include his wife, Georgia Morris of Minden; daughters, Abbie Guzman and husband Daniel of Eagle Mountain Lake, and Laura Hill and husband Jake of Henderson; step-daughter, Sarah Arreola and husband Alex of Dallas; and grandchildren, Julienne, Sophie, and Rhys Guzman, Nolyn and Haden Norris, Aubri Hill, and Sophia, Jeremiah, and Josiah Arreola. Pallbearers will be Daniel Guzman, Jake Hill, Nolyn Norris, Haden Norris, Johnny Penney, and Wyatt Allen. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Buckner, Eddie Lee, David Clifton, Robert Harris, Gary Adams, Steve Brown, and Paul McNutt.
