Mrs. Jimmie L. Burton

Jimmie Leah Birdwell Burton, 89, of Henderson, Texas went to be with her Lord on May 24, 2014. Jimmie was born August 30, 1924 in Minden Texas to George A. and Arlyn Birdwell. She loved her family and her church. Jimmie attended Crims Chapel Baptist Church with her family for many years and then was a member of First Baptist Church of Henderson for over thirty-five years where she served faithfully in the adult choir and the pre-school Sunday School department and taught three-year olds in the Child Development Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas H. Burton, Sr., and one granddaughter, Lydia Kathleen Wilson. Jimmie is survived by her children, Gloria and Pete Freeman of Kilgore, TX; Mary Jane and Mike Brooks of Carrollton, TX; Sandra and Mark Wilson of Katy, TX; Douglas (Doug) and Linda Burton of Wichita Falls, TX; her grandchildren: Stephanie and Donnie Bozant of Kilgore, TX; Melanie Freeman of Pittsburg, TX, Lance and J. J. Freeman of Kilgore, TX; Blake Brooks of Lewisville, TX, Scott and Kara Brooks of Spring, TX, Laura and Bryan Hearn of Katy, TX, Kathryn and Andrew Luttner of New York, NY and Christopher and Shelley Burton of Lawrence, KS; and by seventeen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Jimmie is also survived by her sisters: Billie Jo Burkhalter of Texas City, TX; Mary Pruitt of Henderson; Pat and Doyle Lowe of Bossier City, LA and Linda and Robert Meza of Shreveport, LA. Visitation will be Thursday, May 29th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Crawford A. Crim Funeral Home in Henderson. Services are scheduled for Friday, May 30, 2014, at 10:30 in the morning at First Baptist Church of Henderson, Texas, officiated by Doug Burton, Jr and Lance Freeman. Interment in the Crims Chapel cemetery will precede the memorial service in a private ceremony conducted by Dr. Pete Freeman, under the direction of Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Donnie Bozant, Lance Freeman, Blake Brooks, Scott Brooks, Bryan Hearn, Andrew Luttner and Christopher Burton. For those wishing to make donations in lieu of flowers, suggestions include the First Baptist Church Choir Ministry, the First Baptist Church Children's Ministry or the Alzheimer's Association. Her family wishes to thank the staff at the Lattimore House in Dallas, and the hospice staff for their loving spirit in their care of Jimmie.
