Mr. Douglas Banks Stone

Douglas Banks Stone, 91, of Henderson passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at Autumn Leaves Nursing and Rehabilitation under the care of Heart to Heart Hospice. Douglas was born June 14, 1923 in Santo, TX to Early Andrew and Chloe Banks Stone. Douglas was one of two survivors of his 8th grade class in the New London School Explosion on March 18, 1937. Douglas played running back on the New London Wildcats football team and graduated in 1942. Douglas married the love of his life, Tommie Louise Machen, on July 4, 1942. Douglas served in the Navy from 1942-1945 as a Ships Serviceman L3rd class and was stationed in Hawaii. Douglas worked several different jobs over the years and retired from Texas Eastman on June 1, 1985. Douglas and his wife, Tommie, loved traveling and ballroom dancing. Douglas was a member of the New London Methodist Church for many years. Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 72 years (Tommie Louise), brothers, Arlis, J.T. and Hubert Stone, sisters, Gerald Lehr and Mildred Stewart and son-in-law, Joe Greenhill. Survivors include four children, Sandi Greenhill, Karen and husband William Sears, Nancy and husband Thomas White and Gary Stone. Douglas had one brother, Alton Stone and wife Nelda, one sister, Patsy Stotts and one brother-in-law, Thomas Machen, Jr. Douglas had 10 Grandchildren: Kelli and husband Roland Badillo, Kirk and wife Delana Greenhill, Jodi and husband Stephen Tucker, Justin and wife Kelly Sears, Sydney and husband Rodney Shelton, Jarod and wife Rebecca Sears, Hunter and wife Ana White, Mason and wife Shelley White, Steven and wife Crystal Stone and Garrett Stone. Douglas had 28 Great-grandchildren: Jake McCoy, Colbie and husband Chase Kratz, Cody and Zachary Greenhill, Taylor Knies, Joe, Chloe and Stone Tucker, Summer and husband Robbie Kelsey, Taylor and Colton Sears, Destiny and husband Jake Hooper, Hannah Childress, Dylan and wife Carli DeVance, Mackenzi DeVance, River, Laken, Stormi, Ryder and Rayce Shelton, Destiny and Dalton Sears, Tristan Graham, Sadie and Sophie White, Lily, Jasmine and Bodhi Stone. Douglas had 5 Great-Great Grandchildren: Justin and Tommy Kelsey, Peyton Hooper, and Kaden and Kolton Kratz. A special thanks to Autumn Leaves Nursing and Rehabilitation, Heart to Heart Hospice and personal sitter, Nancy Thomas. In celebration of his life, services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Joe Orr officiating, under the direction of Crawford-A.
