Mr. Carlton Howeth

Funeral services for Mr. Carlton Howeth, 78, of the Zion Hill community, will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Simmons and Rev. Joe Best officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Zion Hill Cemetery under the direction of Crawford – A. Crim Funeral Home of Henderson. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at the funeral home. Mr. Howeth passed away Friday, August 21, 2026. He left the home he loved for the perfect one promised by his Lord and Savior. He was born April 24, 1948 in Henderson, TX to the late Tony Alton and Bessie Clementine (Garrison) Howeth. He was raised in the Chapman community and graduated from Henderson High School. He attended Kilgore College before being called to service with the U.S. Army in Vietnam in 1969. Carlton served as an Infantry Sergeant and gunner attached to the 101st Airborne Division and was awarded the Bronze Star and various other service medals. Upon discharge in January 1971, he returned to Rusk County and began his career as a machinist. Following the relocation of LTV, he joined the Texas Forest Service where he served as a Forest Technician III and was a member of the Texas Forest Service Hand Crew fighting wildfires all over the country. Later, he was selected to attend the East Texas Police Academy and became the Texas Forest Service criminal investigator for wildland arson and timber theft. Carlton spent his retirement in the Zion Hill community where he cared for his land, timber, and livestock. With love and devotion for his family he spent countless hours restoring his and Donna’s historic farmhouse. He was a faithful member of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher and was dedicated to ensuring the preservation of the church building and grounds. Carlton loved the Lord and was a great encourager to his family, friends, and fellow church members. Throughout the years, he especially enjoyed his dogs, his horse, Reno, and his pet rooster, Rooster Cogburn. His sons and daughter were a great source of pride for Carlton as evident in his attendance at events, phone calls to catch up, and loving encouragement. He delighted in his grandchildren and happily served as a regular “shuttle service”. Carlton made sure they knew about Jesus and His great love for us. His steadfast presence in all their lives provided immeasurable value. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Sonny Coyle. Survivors include: his beloved wife of 34 years, Donna Simmons Howeth of the Zion Hill community; children, Chaney Glen Howeth and wife Shannon of Pine Hill, Amber Townsend Enloe and husband Cody, and SPC Colby James Whatley, U.S. Army and wife Katelyn of Fort Polk; brother Jarrell Howeth and wife Gail of Oakland; five grandchildren, Jacob Howeth and wife Amy, Dalton Howeth and fiancé Katie, Dawson Zarazinski, Adalyn Enloe, and Emmett Enloe; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Rhonda and Kenneth Keeling; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
