Mr. C.J. Whitehead

Funeral services for Mr. C.J. Whitehead, 80, of Henderson, will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 13, 2024, in the chapel at Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home with George Willis officiating. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park under the direction of Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM on Thursday, September 12, at the funeral home. Mr. Whitehead passed from this life on September 10, 2024, at his residence. He was born May 26, 1944, in Lilbert, Texas. C.J. attended Dallas Institute of Funeral Service and became a licensed funeral director for Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Rusk for 7 years. His desire to provide for his family led him to a long career with Texas Utilities, later Luminant, where he retired as a maintenance planner and supervisor. C.J.’s challenges in his younger years sharpened him as iron sharpens iron and gave him the fortitude to forge a path of success throughout his life. He was reserved and honest yet had a firm resolve that never left you wondering where he stood. He was a people person, always looking out for the best interest of others and enjoyed the fellowship of his coworkers and friends. Mr. Whitehead was an outdoorsman that enjoyed fishing and hunting with his friends. He was also into tournament archery where he honed his skills with a bow and arrow. He had been a member of the Lone Star Bowhunters Association and the Ioni Hunting Club. Above all, Mr. Whitehead was a man of faith, a loving and devoted husband, and a wonderful father. C.J. was preceded in death by Marvin and Minnie Lee Latham who raised him. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Billie Whitehead of Henderson; children, Lana Price and husband Brian of College Station, and Kenneth Whitehead of Claremore, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Ashley Nicole and Cory Jacob Price; best friends, George and Diana Willis; siblings, Cleve, Robbie, Dorothy, and Delores; as well as a host of other family, colleagues, and friends. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Whitehead, George Willis, Alan Hood, William Vaught, Darren Vaught, and Greg Gooding. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Ioni Hunting Club.
