Mrs. Barbara Cravey

Barbara Leath Cravey , 90, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Monday, April 24 2023. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, April 28, 2023 in the chapel of Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Mayhugh officiating. Entombment will follow at Rusk County Memorial Gardens under the direction of Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Thursday, April 27, 2023 at the funeral home. Mrs. Cravey was born December 4, 1932 in San Angelo, Texas to William Laverne and Mary Ellen (Goldsberry) Leath and was raised in Henderson. A 1951 graduate of Henderson High School, Mrs. Cravey attended North Texas State College in Denton, Texas and later studied art at the University of Louisiana in Lafayette, LA. A devoted wife and mother, Mrs. Cravey loved to paint and was very artistic. Mrs. Cravey enjoyed making stained glass windows and ornaments as well. She taught stained glass crafts and was commissioned to repair the antique stained-glass windows of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Joinerville. She loved music and played several instruments including the trombone, piano, and the mandolin. An excellent cook, Mrs. Cravey enjoyed cooking for her family and passed that love on to her children. She compiled a notebook of family recipes through the generations which she had hoped to turn into a book. She loved gardening and created many beautiful yards, lovingly designed by herself and begrudgingly maintained by her children. Mrs. Cravey also enjoyed volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club with art activities. She was a member of First Methodist Church of Henderson and taught an Adult Sunday School Class for many years. Mrs. Cravey was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary Leath; husband, H. Dean Cravey; son, Daryl Paul Cravey; and brother, William Jake Leath. Survivors include her children, Keith Cravey and wife Elaine, Jim Cravey and wife Opor, Julie Cravey Cassity; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Pallbearers will be Jason Cravey, Jake Cravey, Keenan Cravey, Jordan Cravey, Christopher Cassity, and Austin Cassity. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Williamson, Paul Attwood, Bill Leath, Tim Leath, Hitai Lee and Bobby Morrison. The family would like to say a special thank you to Rita Davis, Ivanell Hart, Annette Scott, and Jerri Brandenburg as well as the staff of Angel Care Hospice for the care and attention they showed to Mrs. Cravey.
