Mrs. Adah Estelle Shannon

Adah Estelle Shannon, 92, of New London passed away peacefully on March 27, 2025. A graveside service will be held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 5, 2025. Visitation will be held at the Crawford A. Crim funeral home in Henderson, Texas from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, April 4. Adah was born on June 14, 1932 in Longview, Texas to George and Theresa Clark. She was preceded in death by her husband Gene Shannon, sisters Thelma Riza and Jean Hughes, and brothers Jim Clark, George Clark and Bill Clark. She is survived by her son Danny Shannon and wife Marilyn of Kansas City, Missouri, daughter Sherry Schattie and husband Dan of Jupiter, Florida, grandchildren Kate Chastain, Emily Chastain, Jake Schattie, and Josh Schattie, great grandchildren Ben Breitkreutz, Birdie Breitkreutz, and Rose Boka, and numerous nieces and nephews. Adah was raised in Gladewater, Texas and graduated from Gladewater High School. After graduation she attended the University of Houston where she met Gene. They were married in 1952 and shared their lives for 65 years. After settling in New London, Adah finished her college education earning both bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Stephen F. Austin University. After working as a stay-at-home mom, she began her career teaching science at West Rusk Jr. High school and P.E. at New London Elementary School. She then taught biology at West Rusk High School for a majority of her career. After retirement, she continued to substitute teach for many years. The teachers and students at West Rusk were a second family to her. She loved being around and interacting with them. Although teaching was her passion, she also enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She was considered a master pie-maker by many. Adah was a faithful member of the New London United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years and as a board member on various committees. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother and a friend to many. She was generous with her time and loved to be around people. She will be missed by her family and numerous friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
