Mrs. Ruth Jones

Mrs. Ruthie Pearl Poovey Jones went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday March 11, 2014 at the age of 102. She was born on October 24, 1911 to Arch and Evie Little Poovey of the Wood Glen Community in Rusk County. Ruth married her childhood sweetheart, E.L. “Gene” Jones on November 2, 1932. Side by side, they built their first home and worked the land for a living. When Brother Jones surrendered to preach in 1935, he and Ruth began a life time of service to the Lord, His churches, and His people. During the course of their ministry, Brother Jones pastored seven Missionary Baptist churches. He and Ruth forged lifelong friendships in each community. She provided a living example of Christian love and compassion for all those with whom she came in contact. Ruth understood the value of hard work and found joy in caring for others. She and Gene moved home in 1975 and built their beloved Sleepy Hollow, near Brachfield. Both Ruth and Gene counted it a blessing to serve the Lord in their home community. Ruth touched countless lives over the course of her 102 years on this earth, and it was her heartfelt desire that each and every one of her friends and loved ones meet her in Heaven someday. In addition to her parents and her husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her son and only child, Clifton Jones, her brothers Elzie and Claude Poovey, and her sisters Gracie Poovey, Ada Collins, Nell Jones, Edith Allred, and Hazel Griffith. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Doris Jones Lane and husband, Roland and granddaughter, Melanye Hull all of Tyler. Grandson, Mark Jones and wife, Missy of Longview, great grandchildren Kyle and David Brown of Tallahassee, Florida, Shane Jones and wife, Michelle, and Caleb Jones all of Tyler as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Services for Mrs. Ruth Jones will be held on Friday March 14, 2014 at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Crawford A. Crim Funeral Home in Henderson Texas with Dr. Paul Powell officiating. Burial will follow at the Welch Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Shane Jones, Caleb Jones, Mark Jones, Wayne Jones, Kenneth Keeling and Rickey Wittner. Jake Keeling will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
